A trip to the National Corvette Museum

by Logan on April 29, 2010

I’ve always wanted a Corvette. I don’t know when it started, but it must have been pretty early in life. I blame my father, who told me all about his 1979 ‘Vette.

The trip to Bowling Green and the National Corvette Museum has been a long time coming. I figured last weekend was the perfect time to visit as I was driving back home from my visit to Nashville. If you don’t like cars, then you probably won’t enjoy this post. You’ve been warned.

This is one of the cooler uses of old license plates I've seen. All of them were obviously Corvette related. I probably looked like a goofball standing on my very tip-toes to get this photo, but so be it.

The cars were the best part. I’ll let them do the talking.

I had never seen an iMac transformed into a touchscreen before, but they had two of them at the beginning of the museum.

I kept thinking how cool it would be if this said "LMB" instead...

I think it would fit in the Camaro, don't you?

This is my favorite of the concept cars in the museum. It's over the top without being too ridiculous.

Advice of the day: Don't run your Corvette into a wall. If you do, however, it will be safe.

The millionth Corvette ever made. That's a lot!

That's a V-12. It usually runs an airplane. Someone I'd love to meet decided to put it in a Corvette back in 1992. Amazing.

A beautiful view of the 1953 Corvette. That was the first year it was in production.

The 1953 looks just as good from the front as it does from the side. Beautiful.

This is 500,000 cars after the Millionth Corvette I showed you earlier. I like this one much better.

The Corvette has been the pace car for the Indy 500 an awful lot. Here are a few of the cars from over the years.

This is the original ZR-1, which was built from 1990 to 1995. I will own one someday.

Corvettes are 'Merican. Love the side pipes.

Yup, I would drive this thing around in a heartbeat, despite the ridiculous paint job.

What's the definition of an over-the-top Corvette, you ask? Look no further.

The 2010 ZR1 is a bit more advanced than the originals. They had a raffle going for this one, which would have been great if the tickets weren't $500 each. I guess that's not bad when the car costs more than $100,000.

This is what they call the Nursery. It's where they put Corvettes that are waiting to be picked up by owners. They pay extra to go on a tour of the assembly line and talk to the employees, and then they get to come pick up the car. The guy with the cell phone is taking the silver one home. Jealous.

The next time you’re home, run down to John Bolyard’s and have him show you HIS Corvettes. He’s got one I’ve been trying to buy from him for years!
